The City of Brookshire and Brookshire Youth Sports League have reached an agreement for the youth organization to lease Hovas Park for the use of our Baseball and Softball teams. After months of negotiations, the two organizations agreed on terms of use for the youth of South Waller County. This means that the park will not only be in regular use and maintenance, but will also allow the organization to pursue a National or Little League Charter in the near future. “It’s been a long time coming,” says co-founded and League Treasurer, Joe Jenkins.

Brookshire Youth Sports League was founded in January 2021 by brothers Joe and Daniel Jenkins of Katy and Sealy, Texas. Both have family in the Brookshire area and saw the need for a youth sports organization. When you look at South Waller County, for our kids to be active in youth sports they’ve had to travel to Katy, Sealy, Fulshear or Waller for years now. The need for an organization that was local was evident. “I think this is a great opportunity for our kids to get involved with something positive in our community,” says Kim Branch, Brookshire Alderman and supporter of the lease agreement between the City of Brookshire and Brookshire Youth Sports League. “It’s been a long time since we’ve had [youth sports] and I think it’s important to learn sportsmanship and basics of baseball to give kids a head start in sports.”

Through months of work, an official non-profit was establish, an executive board stepped up, and Brookshire Youth Sports League was formed, starting on April 1, 2021 with the league’s inaugural baseball and softball opening day! 68 youth of Brookshire, Pattison and surrounding communities were registered and played a full spring season. Baseball and Softball returned in the Fall for a fast and furious Fall Ball season, where over 30 youth played multiple games with Eagle Lake, Hempstead Little League and Waller County Sports Association. To date, the Royal Independent School District has been supportive of the league, offering use of the high school fields and Ziggy Field behind the Royal STEM Academy.

“We’re really excited to see the future of Royal ISD sports as the league continues to grow,” says Amanda Neuendorf, the league’s Director of Social Media and Marketing. “It’s been great to work with other members of our community who are youth-focused. As a mom, it’s important for me to keep my kids busy. It keeps them out of trouble, and helps build that team mindset with our kids here, both on and off the field.”

Brookshire Youth Sports League is back this season with the second Spring season of baseball and softball! Opening Day is scheduled for March 5th.
